Day 61 Gonna Be a Rough Night

Well, my almost-19-yr-old son has decided he wants to move to Arizona. And he's leaving Monday.

Which has me in a bit of a tailspin. But I've know of his plan since August, I just kept hoping he'd change his mind.

It's not that I'm against it, I'm just going to miss him terribly. But I want him to be happy and to succeed.

He'll be staying with an aunt and uncle and cousin (his age), and they are requiring him to be in school in order to stay with them, so that's a good thing. I hope he likes it, and that he acclimates well. But I'm gonna miss him.

So a couple days ago I asked him if there was anything in particular he'd like for dinner before he leaves. His answer: Chicken Paprikas. With homemade sour cream dumplings. Lots of dumplings.

This happens to be one of my all-time favorite foods, so you can see the dilema, right? Big, BIG temptation here. Carb-frickin-city!!

So, I am going to try and keep it to a reasonable amount, and I will go out and do my C25K tonight, so hopefully I can mitigate it at least a little bit.

This is really one of my biggest weaknesses. Hopefully there won't be any left-overs in the fridge!

____________

So here's my question: when you know you are going to be faced with a strong temptation, what do you do to successfully minimize the damage? How do you prevent an all-out binge?

Suggestions, strategies, please!!!

____________

One more note: I caved and got on the scale today. Lost 1 lb. I guess its better than nuthin!

  1. Oh my gosh, that´s hard..first off your son leaving =( but at least he is with family and will be in school so you don´t have to worry too much and you can come out to the west coast too. so yay. umm about the temptations, oh my! and dumplings sounds so delish but I haven´t been there yet, just make sure you have some healthy snacks before hand that way you´re not starving when the delicious food is right there in front of you and please keep us updated on how you do, you´re doing so well with the C25K. congrats!

  2. I'm sorry about your son leaving - I can't imagine how hard that must be. And anytime I know there's going to be a special event with lots of food - like holiday dinners - I always fill up on healthy, filling stuff. Oatmeal, or vegetable barley soup, or smoothies packed with fruits & veggies. Don't show up to something like starving. Because if you do, it'll be a disaster. Just saying.

  3. My step daughter from marriage number 1 just up and moved to Arizona a couple weeks ago. We got about a weeks notice and poof, she was gone. Not concerned, she is 23 and seems in control. A bit more notice would be nice, but, when I was 23, yeah I wouldnt have given that much notice.

Binging prevention, simpe; look away. Ok, not so simple to do but what i have founf is it is all a mind game... if I see a temotation and look away or better yet move away from it as far as possible, well then I do real well to not go after it. Seems to simple, but hey, it works.
